Photosynthesis was performed as an opening performance of the exhibition "1 2 0" (one to ten) at Joyman Gallery.

The performers are all pretending to be tiny plants in the bathtub which they can't get out. Moreover, the subject of the show is to explore reactions of endurance because of the unsatisfying postures and conditions. At the last moment, the best plant will be selected to be the next caretaker of the greenhouse. "1 2 10" (one to ten) is to count one to ten in your mind when you have to endure something unbearable.

 

In the past few years, we have to be patient with some situations in this country. It's been so long that we have to believe in what they told us to believe, no questions or doubts, it’s been so long that we have to endure it, silently counting numbers over and over in our head. They try to intimidate and frighten us, and we are really scared to death. Looking around today, hearing widespread whispers from people who feel the same, how long do we have to count this one to ten? to hundred? to a thousand? This endless counting will continue as long as all of us still count it. Time to shout out, One to ten, no more!
